With the release date of WoW Wrath of the Lich King announced as the 13th November I am going to start preparing for the new expansion. Here is how I am going to prepare for Wrath of the Lich King.
- Get WoW Gold!!!
Play the Auction House buying low and selling high. An advanced tactic is to control an entire item. For example, buyout all light leather on the auction house and then sell it at double the price, buying out anyone who undercuts you. This forces people to pay your prices and so you can potentially double your gold. However, this is a risky strategy if you are competing against too many players. You will also need a large supply of gold to start it.
Empty your bank and bags! This is another thing to do to make room for all those tasty drops in WoW WOTLK. Another bonus is that you can sell everything that you will not need. Vendor or auction house everything that you will not need and then delete any old pvp gear you have. Make sure to sell all your mats in your banks as the prices of these will plummet on WOTLK release. This is of course only if you know you will not need them to level a profession in the expansion.
Grind! I know it is a bit boring but it is still a good way to make some wow gold. Elemental plateau in Nagrand was always my choice of venue but there are hundreds to choose from. Just search the official wow forums or google it.
I think a safe amount is 1k gold per character. This should mean that you can afford the necessary upgrades as you level and could cover a lot of the profession levelling. Obviously if you have something like 5k gold then you will able to level faster as you can buy enchants and good gems for your gear.
- Buy pots and mats that you will need for levelling.
Pots will help you level a lot quicker. Obviously they will be quite expensive but if you can afford them, they will make your levelling time decrease by quite a bit. You can use a battle elixir with a guardian elixir and also a weapon oil. Also use food buffs. On my mage it increases my dps by about 20% when I am fully raid potted and so you can imagine the difference that will make to your mob grinding at level 71! The best place to buy them is the auction house, unless you have a nice alchemist friend. If you are buying in bulk it might be best to make a deal with an alchemist for a reduced price.
You should also get a nice supply of netherweave cloth while it is cheap for levelling first aid in the early levels.
- Get mats for levelling professions!
Same as previous point. Check what is currently yellow/orange to make at the moment and stock up mats to make at least 20 of them to get a headstart in your professions. Also if you are thinking of levelling a new profession in WoW WOTLK, make sure you get to 375 before the 13th November!
- Cap you honour and marks.
At the time of posting this Blizzard have only stated that arena points will reset. They have said nothing about honour or marks. Therefore it is a good idea to get 75k honour and 100 of each mark to give yourself a headstart at 80. However, be warned they may still announce that they will reset, in which case you will have wasted a lot of effort. You will also not be able to buy many items on dinging 80 as they will require a personal rating most probably and the arena season does not start immediately with the expansion. They may also inflate honour so that your 75k is actually only worth about 5k as we know it. Basically this is only for the hardcore!
- Screenshot yourself at 70!
A purely sentimental one now to finish off. At 80 you will have forgotten most of what you looked like and how Azeroth looked at 70 so it is nice to have a record of it through screenshots. I still enjoy looking at my nub self at 60 and see how my character has progressed.
- Make sure you have all 16 slot bags or better!
You will need them as you pick up random loot while levelling. It lessens trips to the vendor and so improves levelling speed.

So there you have it. Get preparing!
